Mediterranean evenings were never designed for screens. They were designed for chairs pulled onto terraces, glasses of something cold sweating in the heat, conversations that wander nowhere in particular, and the slow fade of light over rooftops. The phone in the drawer habit restores this.

At 8 PM — or whenever your evening properly begins — put your phone in a drawer. A literal drawer. Not face-down on the table. Not in your pocket on silent. In a drawer, in another room if possible. Leave it there until morning.

What opens up in the space left behind is surprising. You notice the quality of evening light. You hear birds winding down. You remember a question you wanted to ask the person next to you. You pick up a book without negotiating with your own attention span. Your mind stops bracing for notifications and starts settling into rest.

This is not a detox protocol. It is not a productivity hack. It is simply the Mediterranean understanding that evenings belong to people and place — not to a feed that never stops scrolling. The world outside the drawer is more interesting than anything on the screen, and the habit proves it every single night.
